Frequently Asked Questions

At MillyVet, we believe every pet deserves a peaceful, loving goodbye. Dr. Regina offers gentle in-home euthanasia to honor your bond. If you're currently facing this decision or planning ahead, we’re here to help. Please feel free to call us at 540-944-7300 with any additional questions.

At MillyVet, in-home euthanasia allows your pet to pass peacefully in the comfort and familiarity of home. Dr. Regina provides compassionate care to ensure your pet’s final moments are calm, surrounded by love and the people they trust most.

It’s a deeply personal decision. If your pet is struggling with chronic pain, mobility loss, breathing difficulties, or a declining quality of life, it may be time to consider euthanasia. Please visit our Quality of Life Tools page or call to speak with one of our support specialists if you have questions about your pet's condition.

Please visit our Services page for  details.

We do not offer emergency services. Please see our In Case of Emergency page if you are finding yourself in need of emergency care.

Our well trained support professionals are available to answer calls and emails from 7am-8pm Monday-Friday, and 7am-6pm Saturday-Sunday. Dr. Regina sees patients by appointment only, Monday-Friday 9am-5pm. Evening, weekend and holiday appointments may be available upon request, but do incur an additional fee.

We treat dogs, cats, and small animals such as rabbits, rats, ferrets, guinea pigs, and hamsters.

Dr. Regina will begin by explaining the process and answering any questions. Your pet will first receive a gentle sedative and pain reliever to help them relax and become more comfortable. They will then receive a second step of sedation to ensure complete relaxation. Once your pet is deeply asleep, a third injection will be administered to help them pass peacefully. You’ll have all the time you need at each step to say goodbye.

Appointments generally last between 45 and 60 minutes. Every visit is paced according to you and your pet’s needs, with no pressure or rush.

Yes. You are welcome to include family members, children, and other pets. Their presence can bring comfort and help everyone, including other pets, process the loss in a healthy and understanding way.

Select a calm, cozy spot where your pet feels happiest — on their bed, your lap, or even a favorite sunny patch. Feel free to have comforting items like blankets, treats, or toys nearby. Some families also like to light a candle or play soft music.

Following your pet’s passing, Dr. Regina can assist with respectful aftercare arrangements, including transportation for cremation services if desired. If aftercare services are requested, Dr. Regina will gently transport your pet to her vehicle using cozy blankets, and a basket or a stretcher, For larger pets, we may ask family members to assist with this transport of your pet. We offer several memorial options and will help you find the one that feels right for you and your pet.

MillyVet partners with Agape Pet Services, a local crematory, to offer both private and communal cremation options.

- When you choose private cremation, your treasured pet will be the only pet in the cremation chamber during the cremation process. When the cremation process is complete, we ensure that you receive only the cremated remains of your pet. Cremains can be picked up by the family at the crematory (3955 Hammonds Mill Rd, Hedgesville, WV 25427), shipped directly to your home, hand delivered by Dr. Regina to your home, or even delivered to many regular veterinarian offices for pickup.

- With communal cremation, your pet is gently placed into the crematory together with other pets, and their ashes are respectfully spread at the crematory. No ashes are returned with communal cremation.

If you prefer to make aftercare arrangements with another local crematory, we are happy to provide guidance and support with this process in any way that we can.

If desired, Dr. Regina is happy to provide a complimentary ink paw and/or ink nose print, as well as a fur clipping at each appointment. For our families choosing cremation for their pet through our partner crematory (Agape Pet Services), we utilize the expertise of the crematory staff to prepare additional memorial items as requested, including clay paw prints, jewelry, garden markers, etc. Please visit their website at www.agapepetservices.com for more information regarding these services.
